Driven!!!
Today I rejoice with the women from Saudi Arabia. They have earned the right to drive a car.
While they have can now drive (with the permission of their guardian), the women who are the force behind this change are being prosecuted, maligned and treated poorly. In addition to that women in Saudi Arabia still cannot:
Keep fighting sisters. We were once in your shoes. It took bold, brave, daring women to change our situation and it seems you have no shortage of bold, brave, daring women.
While they have can now drive (with the permission of their guardian), the women who are the force behind this change are being prosecuted, maligned and treated poorly. In addition to that women in Saudi Arabia still cannot:
- Spend time with a male friend
- Get a passport or travel without permission from their “guardian” (which is a male family member and can even be a small brother)
- Marry or divorce without permission
- Open a bank account
- Dress how they please
Keep fighting sisters. We were once in your shoes. It took bold, brave, daring women to change our situation and it seems you have no shortage of bold, brave, daring women.
Small step, but an important one.

ReplyDeleteIt hurts my heart to consider how meaningful this small act must mean for them. We take so much freedom for granted. As if it couldn't disappear in a heartbeat.

ReplyDeleteWell if you think about it my mom couldn't get a credit card without my fathers name on it and that was in the early 70's. That was only 40 years ago. I hope this is the beginning for them.
